We are planning on leaving our two children (7 and 2) with our 17 year old neighbor. She has been sitting for us for four years, is wonderful, mother next door is a nurse and will be helping. We are going on a cruise and will be gone a week. I have no idea what to pay her. Generally we pay her $10 an hour to watch the kids. Nanny rates are about $400 I think? We live in a rural town in central Florida. Not exactly New York or LA, or even Tampa or Orlando. I want to be good to her, but realistic.
Any input would help.
Thanks.

I am a mother to a 4 month old boy. My best friend is due in November with a girl. She has asked me to be her nanny, she has to go back to work. I am currently a stay at home mom. I would start babysitting when her baby is about 3 months and my son is a year. I would love to help her out and not charge her, but we really do need the money and it will be a lot of work!
We live in New Jersey about an hour from Philly and New York. The median income in my town is $70,000.
How much do you pay your nanny and how much should I expect to get paid?

I’ve been offered a Nanny job in New York, but I don’t think the pay’s enough. I would have my own private bedroom/bathroom, meals, all medical expenses, and only ONE day off (Is that “normal”?).
I’d have 2 take care of 2 young children (getting them ready for school / playgroup and also collecting them). When they are not at school I’d play with them and keep them occupied and also encourage them in their studies. Also, do light housekeeping, ironing, laundry, tidying the children’s bedroom and run errands if needed.
So I guess I want 2 know what a “regular” nanny does, how much they pay her, how many days off they get, etc.
PLEASE b as SPECIFIC as possible! THANKS!
p.s. I’ve heard there’s people who ask their nanny’s 2 join them in bed… Has it happened 2 U? How do U deal with that?

I am doing a school project. And I have a fictional family that is living in the Upper West Side of New York, a two income family living in a 3 bedroom co-op. The price is 1,645,000. I was just curious if you guys could give me a vague estimate of the homeowner’s insurance. Also, what a good average weekly cost for food with a 4 person family (plus one live in nanny), ideally they would shop at a Dean and Delucca type store.
