I’m sick of my 9 to 5, and I’m thinking about moving to NYC and starting fresh. (I’m in my 20’s, so don’t criticise!) I need to make money while I work on writing my play, but I want to do something that allows more freedom than my current job does.

I’d love to do something like dog-walking, or possibly be a nanny… but is there much of a calling for this?
I’m American… ha ha.

“Criticise”… I didn’t even notice that! I’ve been to the UK one too many times.

I am 19 years old, I have lived in a small town all of my life that is 6 hours away from NYC. My life long dream has always been to live there. I know some friends who live there and I love everything about it. I have 3 semesters of college education and I am planning on being a certified Nanny so I can be a Nanny in the city, or working a full-time job as a waitress. The problem is, I am the youngest in my family and my parents are protective and quite strict. I do not believe in myself very much and I feel that my parents will try to talk me out of moving and hold me back from living in nyc. I think they wll think I am too immature and stupid to live 6 hours away in a big city. I need help, this is what I want to do and I have wasted too much time here. How can a small town girl move to NYC? What do I need to know and look for? I am confused and torn and I am afraid to tell my parents what I want to do because I fear they will discourage me and NOT support me. Please give advice!

NYC is investigating banning high levels of trans-fats from NYC restaurants:

I thought the Supreme Court said I had a “constitutional right to privacy!” Hey, sodomy carries health risks too, but it’s been deemed unconstitutional to ban it. So why is this different?

I’m being partly sarcastic – you’d be hard pressed to find a “privacy” right to start with. But is government going too far? heck, smoking bans at least have the arguable justification that you are hurting others. Seat belt laws may help you keep control of the car, so you don’t hurt others, if you are hit. Drug laws may prevent you from hurting others when you are high. And yes, laws against harmful food may lower everyone’s insurance costs.

But when is enough enough? How do you feel about possible encroachment of “the nanny state?”

I’ve mashed together a lot of thoughts here, but give it a go. thanks.
Hey Stifle, I’ll assume your answer is a joke.

No one could have misread the question so completely for real.
